AFSCME California PEOPLE Joins Labor Leaders and Advocacy Organizations In Support of Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara For Re-election

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Ricardo Lara for Insurance Commissioner Campaign is proud to announce an endorsement from the AFSCME California PEOPLE Committee, consisting of 11 AFSCME union affiliates representing over 100,000 public service workers throughout the state. They join the California Democratic Party, the California Labor Federation and an extensive coalition of activists, organizations, and Democratic leaders from across the state supporting the Insurance Commissioner’s re-election campaign.

“AFSCME California PEOPLE, including over 100,000 California public service workers, is proud to support Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara for re-election,” said Alia Griffing, Political and Legislative Director. “His commitment to addressing the needs of all hard-working women and men throughout our state has remained constant and we look forward to continuing our work with him to protect workers and consumers throughout California.”

With many Californians left reeling in the wake of devastating wildfires, Commissioner Lara has fought for fire victims as they try to rebuild their lives.  Lara protected more than 2.4 million policyholders from non-renewal following declared wildfire disasters in 2019. He also created the nation’s first Climate & Sustainability branch within the Department of Insurance.

Commissioner Lara has also been a leading voice for expanding health care to all Californians, including advocating for ground-breaking legislation that will allow workers to cover their elderly parents on individual insurance policies.

AFSCME California PEOPLE joins leading labor and progressive organizations in support of Lara’s re-election, including: California Labor Federation, California Federation of Teachers, California Teachers Association, California Professional Firefighters, California Nurses Association, United Farm Workers of America, State Building and Construction Trades of California, and more
