Leaders from Across California Support Lara’s Re-Election Bid because he Advocates for Consumer Protections

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Lara for Insurance Commissioner Campaign is proud to announce an endorsement from SEIU California, representing over 700,000 nurses, health care workers, janitors, social workers, security officers, in-home caregivers, school and university employees, court workers and city, county and state employees.  This announcement comes on the heels of other recent, prominent endorsements, including the Victory Fund, representing hundreds of thousands of activists for LGBTQ rights.

“Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara stands up for us, the working people of California, often against some of the wealthiest and most powerful corporations in the world,” said David Huerta, President SEIU USWW and Executive Board Member of SEIU California.  “From health insurance to fire insurance, people need protection and security at a fair price, and Commissioner Lara has saved working people billions of dollars. SEIU members enthusiastically support Ricardo Lara for re-election.”

With many Californians left reeling in the wake of devastating wildfires, Commissioner Lara has fought for fire victims as they try to rebuild their lives.  Lara protected more than 2.4 million policyholders from non-renewal following declared wildfire disasters in 2019. He also created the nation’s first Climate & Sustainability branch within the Department of Insurance.

Commissioner Lara has also been a leading voice for expanding health care to all Californians, including advocating for ground-breaking legislation that will allow workers to cover their elderly parents on individual insurance policies.
